Welcome Summer! 4 Ways to Maximize Time Off & Return Refreshed
Summer is officially here and hopefully you have an amazing vacation coming up. A few days off work to rest & relax are always welcome, but every getaway must come to an end. Sometimes those first few days back in the office can be so overwhelming you almost question if you should have even left! So prior to packing up the suitcase, give some of these tips a try…
Catch Up Before You Leave
Don’t just focus on things that will happen or be due while you are out, look ahead to things that will be waiting on you when you return. Anything due within 3 days of your return should be addressed before your departure. Cross things off your list early, giving you less to worry about while you are gone or when you return.
Enlist Your Email Auto Response
Craft an email auto response that not only lets the sender know you are out of the office, but gives them direction on how to proceed. Include the email of a coworker that can help them in your absence or a direct link to your website that addresses your department directly. The sender will appreciate not having to wait, and the issue will likely be addressed by the time you return.
Clear Your Desk
I do this every day when I leave, especially when I’m gone for a few days. Walking back into the office with a pile waiting on you is no way to start a day. A clean desk is a clean slate and a great way to ensure you won’t feel overwhelmed on your first day back.
Unplug & Actually Take Time Off
If you spend your entire vacation checking email, calling into the office, that is just working remotely. Allow yourself time to appreciate the trip you worked so hard for, enjoying friends and family.
